Into the Future: Second Annual Girl emPower Summit Encourages Young Women to Plan Next Steps
The Loudoun Coalition on Women and Girls (LCWAG) announces its second annual Girl emPower Summit, a leadership event designed for young women ages 12-18 years old. Thanks to key sponsors Amazon Web Services and Backflow Technology, the Girl emPower Summit is free for all attendees. The virtual event will be held Saturday, September 25, at 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
“AWS is honored to be a key sponsor for the Girl emPower Summit once again this year,” said Wilberte Paul, Community Engagement Manager at AWS. “During last year’s sessions, we witnessed young women across the region connect over their commitment to community leadership. We can’t wait to see the powerful initiatives and entrepreneurial ventures launched by this generation.”
“As a founding member of LCWAG, it is especially rewarding to watch this hallmark program grow roots in the local community,” said Carol Barbe, President and CEO of Backflow Technology, LLC. “A full 100% of attendees surveyed last year told us that after attending the 2020 Girl emPower Summit, they felt more confident about their future goals. Their feedback was invaluable in choosing this year’s sessions and speakers.”
The theme for this year’s Girl emPower Summit is “Into the Future” and features a keynote from LaDavia Drane, Director of Global Inclusion, Diversity & Equity at AWS. Young women will hear from her and other dynamic speakers on topics including:
College and Careers with Daniela Pierre Bravo, Booking Producer at MSNBC's “Morning Joe"
Entrepreneurship and Leadership with Lorraine Rise, Career Coach at Career UpRising
Mental Health and Wellness with Dr. Suzanne Nixon, Integrative Behavioral Therapist at Integrative Counseling and Relationship Therapy Inc.
Financial Independence with Kleo Curry, Financial Advisor at UBS
Additional event sponsors include Orblynx Academy, One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning, and Fortessa Tableware Solutions/ Sterling Restaurant Supply.
“The Girl emPower Summit is all about empowering young women to find their passions and ensure a bright and healthy future,” explained event organizer Mahsa Riar. “I hope that this year’s attendees will center in on their strengths and take the next steps toward their goals.”
This is Riar’s second year leading the Girl emPower Summit. In January, the high school freshman was awarded $1,000 for the 2021 summit by the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, after winning the Young Professionals category of the Community Leadership Awards. When she’s not in class or volunteering for LCWAG, Riar is running her own business. Limitless Limb LLC creates personalized, creative, and expressive prosthetics for children with limb differences using 3D technology.
