Advancing Loudoun’s Women and Girls Since 1983.
The Loudoun Coalition on Women and Girls (LCWAG) works to expand opportunities for women and girls in Loudoun County to learn, lead, grow, and thrive.
LCWAG’s roots date back to 1983, when the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors established a Commission on Women in response to the need for a dedicated voice on issues affecting women.
Community Driven
The commission was volunteer led, received no county funding, and was sustained through fundraising until it disbanded in 2008. In 2017, the Loudoun Commission on Women and Girls was created after a 2016 vote to reestablish a women’s commission, introduced by Chair Phyllis Randall, did not pass. The effort was driven by constituent calls for a commission focused on women and girls. In response to continued community interest, Chair Randall brought together a group of women to independently establish the commission.
In April 2021, the LCWAG Board of Directors formally established the organization as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit and rebranded as the Loudoun Coalition on Women and Girls. Today, LCWAG remains an all-volunteer, nonprofit, nonpartisan, and nonpolitical organization funded through grants and private donations.
Our mission is simple: LCWAG educates, empowers and collaborates to advance Loudoun’s women and girls.
Our vision is a community where every woman and girl thrives. LCWAG’s work is informed by community voice and local data. Through programs, research, partnerships, and outreach, we identify gaps, elevate needs, and connect women and girls with tools, resources, and opportunities. Our annual bilingual survey helps LCWAG listen to the community, track issues affecting women and girls, and use local insight to guide programs, partnerships, and future priorities.
Putting Insights into Action
We put this insight into action through programs and partnerships that support women and girls at different stages of life. This includes Girl EmPower programming for young women, Women EmPower initiatives focused on career, entrepreneurship, and resources, and Health and Wellness programming that addresses safety, well-being, and awareness around issues such as human trafficking.
Community Advocacy
LCWAG’s work continues to gain recognition across Loudoun County. In 2023, LCWAG was named the Loudoun Chamber’s Nonprofit Organization of the Year and established Loudoun’s first-ever Women’s Hall of Fame which recognizes women and girls whose leadership and service are shaping the community.
Guided by education, inclusion, collaboration, and integrity, LCWAG continues to build on decades of community advocacy while responding to the needs of women and girls today.
Together, these efforts help create a stronger Loudoun where women and girls are seen, supported, connected, and equipped to thrive.
