Our Story

LCWAG’s roots date back to 1983, when the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors established a Commission on Women in response to the need for a dedicated voice on issues affecting women. The commission was volunteer led, received no county funding, and was sustained through fundraising until it disbanded in 2008

After 25 years, the original Commission on Women disbands. The need it served, however, does not go away.

In 2017, the Loudoun Commission on Women and Girls was created after a 2016 vote to reestablish a women’s commission, introduced by Chair Phyllis Randall, did not pass. The effort was driven by constituent calls for a commission focused on women and girls. In response to continued community interest, Chair Randall brought together a group of women to independently establish the commission.

LCWAG establishes its Research & Impact Hub to track the issues affecting Loudoun’s women and girls. The bilingual Voices of Loudoun Women Pulse Survey becomes the centerpiece. The first Girl emPower Summit also takes place this year.

In April 2021, the LCWAG Board of Directors formally established the organization as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit and rebranded as the Loudoun Coalition on Women and Girls. Today, LCWAG remains an all-volunteer, nonprofit, nonpartisan, and nonpolitical organization funded through grants and private donations.

LCWAG launches Loudoun’s first-ever Women’s Hall of Fame, inducting eight remarkable women.

The Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce names LCWAG Nonprofit Organization of the Year.

The Girl emPower Summit celebrates its fifth anniversary, having reached hundreds of girls across Loudoun County since 2020.
